About Us

Alan Marcelis and Harvey Young founded Alan Harvey Property Services in 1989, after already gaining a wealth of experience working for independent estate agencies. Originally operating from E3's Roman Road, Alan Harvey Property Services steadily established themselves as the principal Letting and Property Management service in the area, before extending their expertise with additional premises in Leytonstone in 2000. This office is also the home to the dedicated customer services team, who ensure that Alan Harvey Property Services continues to offer the same high-quality and personal service that built its reputation in the East London, Docklands and Essex areas.

Alan Harvey Property Services are members of ARLA, the Association of Residential Letting Agents - the only professional self-regulating body concerned solely with lettings.

The Association of Residential Lettings Agents (ARLA) was formed in 1981 as the professional and regulatory body for letting agents in the UK. It was recognised that the requirements of the residential lettings market were so detailed and specific that a separate organisation was required to promote standards in this important and growing sector of the property market.

As ARLA members Alan Harvey are governed by Principles of Professional Conduct providing a framework of ethical and professional standards at a level far higher than the law demands. The Association runs a series of meetings, training courses and seminars at local and national levels to ensure that members are kept fully up to date with the latest best practice. Examinations are held regularly and membership rules require all member offices to have professionally qualified staff by the year 2000. Members' accounts are required to be audited annually ensuring that they conform to stringent accounting practice.

All members are required to have professional indemnity insurance cover. In addition they are covered by a bonding scheme which provides financial protection for client monies which have been misappropriated.

ARLA has its own complaints and disciplinary procedures so that any dispute is dealt with efficiently and fairly.

We are also members of the National Approved Letting Scheme (NALS), which has defined a set of minimum standards for residential lettings and management that member agents must meet.

The National Approved Letting Scheme (NALS) provides house owners with the assurance of using a professional body employing defined standards and assurance of how their premises will be used. The aim of NALS is to give owners the confidence to let their property by appointing qualified agents who have agreed to meet these lettings/management standards and have an approved complaints procedure. Tenants are provided with the additional security and assurance knowing the property they let is regulated by an approved professional body. NALS agents visit each property to arrange safety checks, explain tenant rights and the rights of the letter, and provide professional all-round advice.

Agents who have been approved under the NALS scheme will provide a written agreement for managing your property, setting out the services they will provide and what they will cost. NALS agents will provide: Greater consumer protection NALS agents generally offer landlords and tenants greater consumer protection than a typical lettings and management service provided by a regulated agent that does not have NALS membership.
